May 12, 2004 - IDEAlliance presented its annual awards in postal leadership at its 2004 Print Distribution Conference, held April 25-28 at the Sheraton Sand Key Resort in Clearwater Beach, Florida. In making the presentations, Joe Schick, director of postal affairs, Quad/Graphics and Chairman of the IDEAlliance Addressing/Distribution Committee and 2004 Print Distribution Conference, said, Since 1985 IDEAlliance has recognized the movers and shakers that have moved the mailing industry in new directions. Recipients of these awards exemplify a key principle of IDEAlliance all parts of the mailing value chain are engaged through open and collaborative discussion and action.

Anita Pursley of Quebecor World Logistics was awarded the Donald A. Mumma Award for her efforts on behalf of the industry. She has given many years of service on industry committees with IDEAlliance, PostCom, and MTAC (Mailers Technical Advisory Committee). Most recently, she has worked to enhance communication and collaboration on a U.S. Postal Service program, MERLIN. David J. Steinhardt, president of IDEAlliance said, Ms. Pursley has been a steadfast and committed industry leader giving of her time and expertise to advance collaboration between the industry and the U.S. Postal Service.

The Mumma Award is the highest award of distinction that IDEAlliance presents in the mail preparation and processing arena. It is presented to an individual from the industry or the U.S. Postal Service. The award is named for Donald A. Mumma, a U.S. Postal Service branch manager, who was described as a new type of manager in the early 1980s with a customer focus and seeing the need for U.S. Postal Service and industry dialogue. Donald Mumma died in April 1983. Created in his honor in 1985, the Mumma Award is a constant reminder that communication and collaboration between the U.S. Postal Service and the industry are key components to success.

IDEAlliance presented its Innovator Award to Time Inc. The Innovator Award recognizes individuals and organizations whose creativity leads to new thinking outside the box that can increase productivity and market responsiveness in the mailing industry. This years recipient is Time Inc. for boldness in leading an effort for a new and innovate postal rate framework focused on cost-based rates. In presenting the Award, Chairman Schick said, The Innovator Award is given to those who reach outside the current thinking to see new and innovative ways of advancing our industry. That is what innovation is all about taking the chance and moving the bar. Time Inc. has done that with pushing the concept of cost-based rates.
